Today's News in a Nutshell

Your life is busy, right? I know, dudes. With all the Facebook and Twitter news feeds to keep up with these days, who has time for real news?! Not to worry, friends! On TNiaN, I will post a few of the top news headlines from the day, every day. They'll all be short and sweet, so don't expect for your friends to be impressed by your new found current events knowledge. You'll just hopefully sound a little less clueless.

1) Because of the lack of debt ceiling solutions as of yet, bond rating agencies and investors are concerned that the U.S.’s triple-A credit rating would be downgraded. Hopefully this won’t directly correlate to an increase in FreeCreditScore.com commercials & jingles.

2) New census reports show that the wealth gaps between whites and blacks have widened dramatically during the recession. Is this really news?

3) The NFL lockout is over! Hear that? It’s the collective sigh of relief by everyone that works for the Tourism department for the city of Indianapolis.

Sorry I didn’t get a chance to update TNiaN for July 25. There were a lot of happenings in my own life, so I didn’t get a chance to post anything. I hope you accept my apology of a video of a bulldog being cute.

1) Singer Amy Winehouse died yesterday of causes yet to be determined. She was 27. This isn’t exactly a shocker, but the loss of talent is still sad.

After the success of our recent piece on Rupert Murdoch, we felt that we would try this again with breaking news. We don’t have a good name for this idea yet, so for now we’re going to call it a Tumbl-zine — a magazine article designed for Tumblr. We will update this story as the situation changes, so please come back to ShortFormBlog’s article for the latest updates. Update 10:24 a.m. ET: Added reported blog comments from the suspect, many anti-Muslim in nature, spotted via ProducerMatthew.

1) There are terrible things going on in Oslo, Norway—like bombings & shootings. Please keep those people in your thoughts and prayers.

2) On Friday, President Obama certified the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, allowing gays to openly serve in the military. About time! Let’s be real, most gay men are already built like tanks. Less training to get them ready for combat.

3) Tiger Woods fired his longtime caddy Steve Williams due to “issues of control.” Not sure if this is a good move for Tiger—his “issues of control” have certainly gotten him in trouble in other areas…

Fancy Pants!

Starting tomorrow, I will be posting corresponding articles and/or pictures with the daily news. Look at me figuring out this blog shiznit!
